Driftless Social Outing

Camp and Fish with other TU members August 12-14SEWTU traditionally hosts a "work weekend" in the Driftless each summer to allow members to hang out and fish together and work on habitat improvement. Unfortunately, a workday project that fits the requirements of SEWTU was unavailable this year. Our workday volunteers have been working hard this year and deserve a break! This year, we thought something different would be fun so the Chapter will host a social fishing and camping weekend at the West Fork Sports Club from Friday, August 12 to Sunday, August 14, 2022. The West Fork Sports Club (WFSC) is located on the banks of the West Fork of Kickapoo River River in Avalanche, WI, nestled between Viroqua and LaFarge WI, off State HWY 82 in the heart of the Driftless. This outing will focus on some fun fishing activities. It's August,so think hoppers! The WFSC has a prime location with a short drive to over 20 high-quality trout streams (including some our chapter has worked on) and the West Fork of the Kickapoo River is a short walk from your tent.In addition to trout fishing, grilling, campfire tale-telling, andother outdoor camping fun, the chapter will have some of ourexperienced members who fish the Driftless offering mentored fishing for those interested. The mentored fishing would take place Saturday morning August 14 until noontime. If enough people sign-up a second evening mentored fishing session will be offered. Fly or spin gear is welcomed. Please email Rick Larkin at rlcklarkin76@gmail.com if you want to participate and state in the email if you want to be mentored or be a mentor.Camping at the WFSC will be "first come, first serve" but we plan to have a few reserved sites. The WFSC also has two cabins that can be reserved. Other camping or affordable motel options are also available nearby. Please check out the West Fork Sports Club website for reservation information and a location map. Look for upcoming emails for additional details as we get nearer to the date.
