June Driftless Outing!

Weekend Itinerary:

Friday June 7th (optional) we will have a fish fry at the campground just after sunset so you can fish before dinner. Good fishing is available on the West Fork of the Kickapoo at the campground. The Seas Branch, Otter Creek, Camp Creek, and other streams are also very nearby.

Saturday June 8th (workday) 9am-12 noon (Brat Fry at Noon) We will be working with other TU Chapters building Lunker Structures and doing other habitat restoration on Warner Creek, a tributary of the Kickapoo River, east of the Kickapoo Reserve in Vernon County along County Highway P.  Warner is a good brook trout stream in its upper reaches and supports brown trout all the way to its confluence with the Kickapoo River. Come early for a donut and some coffee!
Saturday Evening Fishing. We are continuing our mentored fishing for Saturday. Let some of our veteran Driftless trout guys show you their “secret” fishing holes or go exploring on your own or with a friend. Bring your fly or spinning rod and meet us at the WFSC for Driftless trout fishing. After fishing come back to the WFSC and share your trout tales while enjoying some spicy wild game gumbo. We will finish the day with a community campfire where everyone is welcome!

Friday - Sunday camping at the WFSC located on County Highway S, north of Highway 82 in Avalanche, WI.  Our chapter will reserve a shelter at the campground for cooking and socializing. Camp sites are available for a nominal fee at the Sportsman’s Club as in years past. Camping is also available in the Kickapoo Reserve and other private campgrounds in the area. If you prefer not to camp, there are motel option in Viroqua and Westby (Hickory Hill or Vernon Inn) and cabin rentals are available throughout the area (Bear Creek Cabin, Bishops Branch Arcadian Cabin, Elk Creek cabin to name a few).

This is a great event to meet new friends, learn new streams and give back to our cold water friends and help preserve our resources for generations to come. We encourage everyone to attend who can make it - even if you can’t participate in all the activities - come for what you can - you won’t regret it!  For further details and to
