November 8th Workday at McKeawn Spring Pond
...Final Workday of the Calendar Year is Friday November 8th....
Yes...the November workday is on a Friday! About 40% of our workday volunteers are retired or semi-retired and there are a number of relatively small restoration projects that can be accomplished with a group of 10 to 15 volunteers.
The workday will be at McKeawn Spring Pond. Since it was dredged about 4 years ago this spring pond has become increasingly popular. SEWTU funds a portion of the fish stocking in this pond. We cleared the western shore of the pond for fishing access year ago but brushes/trees have grown back to a significant height and need to be cleared again. This time after they are cut we will treat them so the growth doesn't reoccur.
The workday will begin 10:00 am and end at 1:00 pm. For safety concerns along busy highway 67 there will be NO brat fry afterwards. After the official TU workday ends we can pick a place in Dousman for lunch (dutch treat). If parking becomes a safety problem on Highway 67 there is a large parking area 1/2 mile south of the pond. We will shuttle volunteers from that parking lot to the pond if response to this workday is substantial.
McKeawn Spring Pond is located in the southern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest along highway 67 (west side) just south of the intersection of Piper Road and Highway 67. You will need workgloves and safety glasses for this workday. RSVP Ken Rizzo at riz2337@yahoo.com if you plan to attend or have any questions.
