Bear Creek Workday and Chapter Outing

On Saturday, May 18, 2013, SEWTU returned to the Driftless Area for the Bear Creek Workday, located just north of Lone Rock, to work with our good friends from the Aldo Leopold Chapter of TU (ALTU).

Volunteers built LUNKER structures for Phase II of the Bear Creek Restoration Project.  When installed, these LUNKERs will help stabilize the stream banks and provide overhead cover for trout.  We had a great turn out for this event, and we were able to build 64 full size LUNKERs and 5 Mini-LUNKERs for phase 3 of the project!  Thanks to all the volunteers who traveled and made this workday possible.

We also held our Chapter Outing in the Driftless around the workday.  Many of our members camped at the West Fork Sportsman’s Club in Avalanche, WI and spent the rest of the weekend fishing the fine trout streams of the Driftless Area.  We had a great time making some new friends and catching up with some old ones around the campfire.  Wish we could share all the details with you… but what happens at trout camp, stays at trout camp.  You’ll just have to come out and experience it for yourself sometime.  We’re already looking forward to the next outing!
