Menomonee River Spring Clean-up

Saturday, April 21, 2012, volunteers from around the area pitched in help clean up our waterways at the annual Spring River Clean Up. SEWTU once again hosted a site on the Menomonee River near Miller Park.

Volunteers met at in the parking lot and quickly got to work cleaning the Menomonee River corridor. Others assisted the DNR in the removal of Garlic Mustard, an invasive species plant that grows rapidly along the river, choking out native plants.

SEWTU is involved as a partner in a large scale fish passage project on the north end of Miller Valley and this workday was part of our work-hour contribution to the project. It was great to have such a strong volunteer turnout.

SEWTU would like to thank Milwaukee Riverkeeper for organizing the event, our Site Captain John Knitter, Sendiks in Wauwatosa for providing the donuts, and of course all the volunteers who assisted in the River Clean-Up.
